In this conversation our content manager speaks to one of the directors Mr. Tushabe Herbert who co-founded Amity Realtors Limited with Mr. Mugarukye George. We asked Mr. Tushabe Herbert some questions to take through his work and life journey.
Question: Who is Mr. Tushabe Herbert?
I am Herbert Tushabe, a 39 year old Ugandan with deep passion in social entrepreneurship. My personality is predicated on a background of giving back to the community which led me to the real estate industry. I have previously served as an appropriator to a school in Kakiika until COVID19 pandemic hit hard and I decided to venture into solving the issue of Land acquisition in Mbarara. I was born and raised in Mbarara, Kakiika which gives me the leverage of knowing the current challenges that people face so as to acquire and own land for real estate. Before becoming a property developer, I was initially a broker for over 8 months which experience gave me hands on understanding and close attention to the dynamics of land business in the region.
Question: Tell us about your startup
Our startup deals in affordable land targeting the section of low income earners that have long been ignored by offerings on the market that majorly targeted medium and high income earners.
Question: What inspired you to start this company?
Our inspiration was to be that brand that brings hope to many Ugandans who aspire to own the most valuable asset (land) but have for years lacked options in the real estate market.
Question: What challenges does your company solve for your customers?
Our company is focused on solving the challenge of people finding affordable, credible, authentic land at the most convenient payment plan. We are positioning Amity Realtors Limited as the number one go to brand for all land and real estate related needs in the region.
Question: Where do you see your company in the next 3 years?
In the next 3 years, I see our company as a leading regional player with operations beyond Mbarara and possibly serving other section of the region like Bushenyi, Rukungiri, Ntungamo and Kabale with services that include real estate development advisory services, property management services, valuations, among others.
Question: Does your company have offers/products tailored for the young corporates?
Yes, and that’s partly what informs our niche offering very affordable land at unbeatable payment plan that suits most salary earners. Our plots range from Ugx3-15M and we allow 30% as initial payment and later agree on how to pay the balance.
Question: What advice do you have for people out there as regards land and property buying?
The advice I have for people out there is that they should do away with the wrong mentality of thinking that purchasing land is only possible after accumulating big sums of money. The idea is not about having huge sums of money but an attitude that appreciates the fact that with small amounts and financial discipline, anyone can embark on acquiring land in a period that they never thought possible. This works and I have seen it work with the over 350 clients that we have served in the last one year of operations.
